A few testimonies were given by Holocaust survivors from Crete. Most had left Crete during the German Occupation – mainly to Athens and survived there in hiding or were eventually arrested and survived, against all odds, German extermination camps. These testimonies were conducted and preserved by the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education.

Of the mere handful of survivors who were on Crete at the time of the arrest of the community, there is only one written testimony, given by Josef Cohen to Yad Vashem.
